While at Portobello High School Stuart played in midfield with Edina Hibs and then Salvesen Boys Club. At the age of 16 he secured a contract at Dunfermline and played for the U19s and the Reserves in 2007-08 while just 17.

'Stats' as he is known because of a tag of Statto that he was labelled with as early as Primary One at Duddingston Primary School, plays in the central defence.His appearances at U19 level have been very impressive and shows great maturity in his play.

On the recommendation of his U19 coach, Hamish French, he has taken up yoga and he feels that has been very beneficial to him.He has exceeded his own expectations this far culminating in a first team debut against Queen of the South at the end of last season.This season he hopes to push for a first team place, anywhere will do although initially that probably means the bench at best.
