Paul who celebrated his 28th birthday just before joining Dunfermline at the end of August 2007 has so far enjoyed a very successful goalkeeping career.  Recognised from a very early age as a good prospect , Paul got his first taste of first team football when he was loaned out by his then club, Dundee United to Airdrie in 1999.  He subsequently became United's first choice goalkeeper and remained so until he signed for Norwich City in June 2004.  During that period he won Scotland U21, B international and full Scotland caps.  In total he has eight Scotland caps, the last against Estonia on 27th May 2004.

Paul Gallacher moved from Dundee United to Norwich City on a free transfer in 2004. He waited almost two seasons to make his debut, as Robert Green filled the 'keeper's spot and had to be content with loan spells at Gillingham and Sheffield Wednesday. He got a start under Nigel Worthington and made a total of 36 appearances but when he left the club, new boss Peter Grant then brought in four other keepers to contest the number one shirt and Gallacher endured a difficult season. With David Marshall and Matthew Gilks signed during the summer, it looked like he was not going to get much of an opportunity so with one year left on his Norwich City contract he was happy to join Dunfermline on a loan deal until January 2008.
