Stephen Wright

Bellshill-born Stephen burst on to the football scene as a promising young full back with Aberdeen who signed him in November 1987.He soon made the first team, and his strong tackling and composed play made him a stand out.  He won 14 Scotland U21 and two B Caps before winning two full Scotland caps against Germany and Estonia in 1993.

In 1995 he joined Rangers and went on loan to Wolves before signing for Bradford in 1998.A succession of injuries - many arising from his unwillingness to shirk tackles - hampered the rest of his career. In 2000 he moved to Dundee United then in 2002 he moved to Scunthorpe.

Until now, Stephen's experience of coaching has been as a member of the Rangers Academy Coaching Staff.  Jim McIntyre had this to say of Stephen:

"I played with Stephen Wright at Tannadice and he will be the quieter one in the team.  Stephen is a deep thinker about the game and Rangers knew that when they got him to do the reports on the opposition.  He's been coaching the youngsters at Ibrox as well but is now looking to make his mark in the game.  He was a very good player himself and will be a big help to me with the defensive side of our planning."
